Objective:In India, the incidence of curable blindness especially due to cataract. This prevents poor people from pursuing their daily economic activity. It was therefore felt necessary to treat patients to cater to the ever increasing eye patients.

Owing to the fall in mortality rate and increase in average life span of people, the population in the older age bracket is rapidly increasing. Rural Poor and Urban slum suffer from several ailments which require special attention. In view of this, This project was started in the year 1982 to provide free surgical procedures to the community in and around Tambaram rural areas.

Beneficiaries: The beneficiaries under this scheme are mainly people from lower middle class and poor strata of society living in rural areas.

Source of funds : Contributions from individuals, public and institutions.
