| The Hindu Mission Hospital is an NGO, built and run entirely
out of voluntary contributions from several donors in India and abroad.
The Hospital does not receive any financial assistance either from the
Tamilnadu State Government or from the Union Government of India for revenue
expenditure.
It has been the policy of the Hospital to fund its capital expenditure from donations and manage all revenue expenditure by the nominal charges collected such as :
The Hospital has introduced innovative and effective fund raising schemes to raise funds for construction of buildings, purchase of equipment etc. Some of these include : "SEVA YATRA" was a fund raising programme conducted in March '87. Leading cricketers including Sunil Gavaskar, K Srikanth, Ravi Shastri, R Venkatraghavan and Maninder Singh walked down Mount Road, Madras to raise funds. The walk was highly successful and strengthened the image of the hospital besides helping to raise the funds by more than Rs. 5,00,000. In March 1988, a programme called "CLAP FOR CHARITY" was conducted with the help of the Indian Overseas Bank and the Rotary Club of Madras North and helped to raise funds of Rs. 3,00,000. "SRI RAMA NAMA PATRA" was a successful fund raising programme where students from over 200 schools throughout India collected one or two rupees per square on a card. The campaign raised more than Rs. 5 million, which was used to construct the Sri Rama Nama Block. The programme continues to be effective in bringing funds to the hospital. Regular contact is maintained with professionals such as Chartered Accountants and Advocates, Corporate & Bank Officials through Direct Mail Campaigns. And they are persuaded to participate in promoting this noble cause. Hundis (collection boxes) more than 100 are kept at well-known retail outlets all over Madras to involve the general public in donating for a noble cause. Space donations for free advertisements in dailies like "THE HINDU" were given by many well-known business houses. Many magazines sponsored the cause by carrying free ads, which projected the image of the hospital and served as a reminder to the donors. Hoardings have been taken from time to time in Madras City with the space sponsored by business houses, to carry the message of the hospital. Special spots are aired on Sun TV, Vijay TV etc. regularly, keeping people informed about the Hospital, its mission, its cause and its activities. These have been met with tremendous response, with help pouring in from all corners. Patrons are encouraged to deposit Rs.5,000/- in our "AROGYA SEVA NIDHI" scheme. The interest accrued from these deposits are used for the treatment of the poor and needy. In addition, the Hospital attracts donations through TV
commercials, print advertisements, direct mailers and direct contact programmes.
